"And stood at His feet behind Him weeping, and began to wash His feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed His feet, and anointed them with the ointment."
Luke 7:38
It seems to me that Mary just had a flood of emotions. She, a sinner, in the presence of Jesus Himself. She began crying and washing His feet with her own tears and wiping them with her hair. She kissed them and anointed them with ointment. Oh, what a wonderful feeling it would be to wash the feet of Christ! Judas got after her about wasting such expensive ointment when she could have sold it and given the money to the poor. Jesus told him the "let her alone" (John 12:7) because it was for His burying. He reminded Judas that the poor will always be with them. One of the Pharisees thought that if Jesus was a prophet, then He wouldn't have let a sinner touch Him. So Jesus responded with a parable, then He explained, " Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest Me no water for my feet: but she hath washed My feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. Thou gavest Me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in lath not ceased to kiss My feet. My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed My feet with ointment" (Luke 7:44-46). Jesus forgave Mary of her sins and told her, "Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace" (Luke 7:50). What would you do if in the presence of Christ? Would you react like the Pharisee did or as Mary did?
