Proverbs 23:7
Our thought life determines what our heart looks like. If you have a good mind, then you have a good heart. If you have a bad mind, then you have a bad heart. The heart is a reflection of the mind and actions are the reflection of the heart. Our thoughts lead to our actions; our actions lead to our habits; our habits lead to our character; our character leads to our lifestyle. Having bad thoughts will ultimately lead to an ungodly lifestyle. We must keep our mind under control. It would be wise to stay away from wickedness so our thoughts aren't wicked. If there is a wicked thought, then we should replace it with a good thought. "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things" (Philippians 4:8). Every once in a while a bad thought might pop into our head, but we must refrain from dwelling on it. This quote puts it nicely - "You can't keep a bird from flying over your head, but you can keep a bird from building a nest on your head." Other people may not be able to read our mind, but God always knows our thoughts. Are we thinking of things that are pleasing to the Lord? May we always think on things that will honor Him.
